Cannes Film Festival - From 11 to 22 May

In a couple of days one of the biggest Film Festivals will began. Cannes Film Festival (French: le Festival de Cannes) will be held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, resort town of Cannes, south of France. This year's president of the festival is Robert De Niro for the main competition and French director Michel Gondry is responsible for short film competition. The program is very exciting – it will be shown more than 100 films, including such hot summer hits as "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" by Rob Marshall, short films captured by directors from all over the world, love story dramas as "Restless" by Gus Van Sant and independent films as criminal drama "Drive" with Ryan Gosling.

If I had to choose just five films to watch - it would be very tough. But I try.

1. Firstly, I want to see the opening film of the Festival "Midnight in Paris". Woody Allen is great at making such alive romantic comedies. The main parts are played by talented actresses Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates and actors Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody. The story tells us about family business trip to Paris, where everyone falls in love with their fantasies.

2. Secondly, I choose a drama by another American director Gus Van Sant "Restless", just because of actress Mia Wasikowska. It's a drama about pure, sweet, real teenage love, when all seems to be so simple and complicated in one time.

3. Also I'm interested in "The Tree of Life" by Terrence Malick, starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain. Why? Because I love when Brad plays not "macho man" characters, but a real man, a father. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his hard adult years as he tries to settle a complicated relationship with his father. Sean creates very depressed person Jack, who finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith.

4. Looking through the long list of films I've found another drama with depressing name "Melancholia". A film by Lars von Trier shows a story of two sisters find their relationship challenged as a nearby planet threatens to collide into the Earth. Kirsten Dunst plays a girl, who isn't sure what she needs for truly happiness, but she is getting married. Also we can see here John Hurt, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling and Kiefer Sutherland. I really enjoyed the style of this film - beautiful decorations, costumes, colors and special effects. I hope it's a good psychological story, which would impress me.

5. And the fifth film to watch I prefer criminal film "Drive" directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman in the main roles. The film is based on the 2005 book by the same name written by James Sallis. Ryan plays great as always and his act makes episodes with car escape very intense.
